Laura "Lucy" Olney, age 95 of Reed City, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. She was born May 26, 1921 in North Canton, Ohio, the daughter of Merton and Marguarita (Miller) Deacey. Lucy worked in various fields of employment throughout her life; among them a dental assistant and social worker for the State of Michigan. After Lucy retired, she continued to volunteer. She was an active member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Lucy loved music; playing the piano, the guitar, and singing in the church choir. She also was a member of the local area Kitchen Band. Lucy enjoyed painting, taking her nephews fishing, teaching her nieces the piano, and studying her familys genealogy. She always liked to learn new things including the computer. She is survived by her two sisters, M. Jane Kailing of Reed City and Theresa Harvey of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy Olney Jr.; two brothers, John Miller and Jim Deacey. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Reed City with Father Michael Hodges officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the Church on Friday. Lucy will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart.
