Laura A. Alber, age 76 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born May 1, 1931 in Muskegon to Olaf Alfred and Rose (Minkel) Hansen. She married Glen C. "Pat" Alber Jr. on February 23, 1952 and together they made their home in Big Rapids. Laura was employed as an operator for Michigan Bell Telephone in Big Rapids until the office closed. She then worked at Central Michigan Bank in Big Rapids until her retirement. Laura was an avid bowler who enjoyed tournament bowling throughout the United States with her teammates and dear friends. At home Laura became a productive and talented quilter. She completed a cherished quilt for every member of her family. She is survived by; A daughter: Sue (Paul) Vickery of Grand Rapids A son: Patrick (Vicki) Alber of Rodney Four grandchildren: Allison, Daniel, Anna and Jacob 2 brothers; Russell Hansen of Dorr Allen Hansen of Shingle Springs, CA 2 sisters; Kathleen (Jack) Wielenga of Bellflower, CA Mary Moore of Traverse City and several nieces and nephews. On July 6, 2007, 18 days before her own death Laura was preceded by her husband of 55 years, Glen C. "Pat" Alber Jr. She was also preceded by her parents, a brother, Robert Hansen and a sister Jean Mockbee. A Mass of Christian burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 30th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Lam T. Le officiating. Burial will be at Highland View Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Sunday, July 29th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. that evening. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions in Laura's name may be given to the Lack's cancer at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids.
