Larry A. White, age 66 of Mecosta, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at home. He was born on February 23, 1951 to Leonard and Alberta (VanSlyke) White in Grand Rapids. Larry attended Union High School in Grand Rapids. He entered the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1972. Larry was born and raised in Grand Rapids and in 1988 moved to Mecosta. On May 4, 1991 he married Joyce Sharp. Larry was employed at Evart Products for twenty years and retired in 2011. Larry was an avid Nascar fan who enjoyed watching the races and collecting Nascar memorabilia. When he was able, he spent time working in the yard. He was proud of his Native American heritage and being a member of the Sault Tribe. Larry is survived by his wife of 26 years Joyce White of Mecosta; one daughter, Jenifer Peterson of Grand Haven; step-children, Matthew (Tracy) Godbold Sr. of Waddell, AZ and Joanne Goforth of Mecosta; a sister, Cheryl McElhaney of Wyoming, MI; grandchildren, Cody Peterson, Katie Peterson, Matt Godbold Jr., Kayla Godbold and Ashlee Godbold-Hyde; his mother-in-law, Helen Sharp; sister-in-law, Donna (Jerry) Krum; brother-in-law Dick (Barb) Sharp and several nieces, nephews and friends, who will continue to hold the memories they have close to their hearts. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kelly Szczepanek; step-son, Jeff Godbold; father-in-law, Arnold Sharp and brother-in-law and beloved friend, Ray McElhaney. A celebration of Larrys life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends one hour prior (10AM 11AM) at the funeral home. Services will conclude with military honors. Memorial donations in Larrys name can be given to his family.
