Larry Michael Robinson March 11, 1948 -- April 4, 2024. We mourn your passing and celebrate your life.
Larry Michael Robinson ,76, of Hersey, Michigan died on April 4, 2024 after a long battle with kidney disease. He is survived by Willow Skye (Lucas) Robinson, his wife of 54 years; their children Lynnette (Jason) Knapp, Michael (Heather Needham) Robinson; his siblings Jane Pilsner Robinson, Mark Robinson and Richard Robinson; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a niece and nephews, and many good friends.
Larry was devoted to country and family, honest in his personal and professional dealings, caring and kind in his relationship, eager to extend help and friendship to everyone he met. And, he loved to tell good stories--most of them true.
Larry Robinson was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1948 to Max Earl Robinson and Shirley Hazel (Amacher) Robinson. He loved playing baseball and ice skating. At Mt. Pleasant High School, he lettered in cross country track. At the age of 15, he and two good friends rode their 3-speed bikes across the Mackinac Bridge, around the tip of Lake Michigan, south along Wisconsin's shore, and home again. High school pals (class of '66) called him "Rock" Robinson, because he was a staunch friend who never broke his word.
In 1966, during the Vietnam War, Larry volunteered to serve in the Army, was honorably discharged in 1969 entered Ferris State College, married Willow in 1970, became the father of Lynnette and Mike and graduated with an Associate degree in Food Service Supervision and a BA in Business Management in 1973. He rejoined the Army in 1975 and served in the enlisted ranks until 1982, at which time he became a Warrant Officer and achieved the rank of CW3 in the United States Army Veterinary Corps. He retired with many awards and commendations in 1997.
In his 24 years of service, Larry was devoted to the professional education and welfare of the soldiers in his command. In the aftermath of 911, Larry wanted so much to rejoin the Army, because he believed a soldier never stops serving his country.
In 2000, Larry and Willow built a cabin on the shore of the Muskegon River north of Big Rapids, Michigan. He worked with Habitat for Humanity and joined the Reed City VFW Post 2964 and the Big Rapids Amvets Post 1941. Larry also volunteered with the Wheatland Music Organization in Remus, Michigan as crew leader for various campgrounds during yearly festivals.
Larry loved being with his family, joking with the "grands", sitting in the summer sun and watching Willow's flowers grow.
The family wishes to thank friends and neighbors for their loving support. We will have a Remembrance Gathering this summer.
Arrangements and care entrusted to Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
