Kurt Schwamberger, age 74, a 20 year resident of Canadian Lakes, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021. Kurt was born October 5, 1946 in Tuscaloosa Alabama, the eldest son of Jack and Dorothy "Sue" (Hanna) Schwamberger.
Kurt graduated from Geneseo High School in 1964. He began college at Clarkson University before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1965. Kurt served his country honorably during the Vietnam War until his discharge in 1972 as a Staff Sergeant. He then attended Central Michigan University graduating in 1974 with an MBA.
Kurt enjoyed racing cars, boating, shooting trap, dancing, flying, Alabama Crimson Tide football and was an avid golfer. Over the years, Kurt was active in the Big Rapids Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club, as well as the Grand Rapids Jaycees and youth hockey.
Kurt is survived by his son, Eric (Kim) Schwamberger of Canadian Lakes; daughter, Stacey (Jay) Platz of Sand Lake; brother, Pete (Lin) Schwamberger of Spencerport, NY; his grandchildren, Adrian (Kenzie) Greiner, Geana (Peter) Esshaki, Jack Koning III, Shone Koning, Kurt Schwamberger and Andrew Koning; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet friends while following the government guidelines, please social distance, wear a mask, and 25 people will be allowed in at a time, Monday, March 1, 2021 from 5pm-8pm at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home, 13985 Northland Drive, Big Rapids MI 49307.
Memorial contributions may be made in Kurts name to the Animal Rescue Coalition of Mecosta County, 18400 220th Ave, Big Rapids, MI 49307 or Spectrum Health Hospice.
