Kurt W. Johansen, age 68 of Chippewa Lake, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital. He was born September 20, 1948 in Hart, the son of Robert and Adele (Erdman) Johansen. Kurt was raised in Holland, where he graduated high school. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving during Vietnam. Kurt was employed by Subsurface Construction and Kent Power, retiring in 2009. He married Glenda Tanner in August 1993. Kurt enjoyed playing and watching sports, bowling, and golfing. He was a diehard Detroit Lions and University of Michigan fan. Kurts grandchildren were his life. He loved and supported them and attended all their special events. Kurt was a member of the Big Rapids Eagles 2535. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Glenda Johansen of Chippewa Lake; five children, Chad (Renae) Johansen of Rodney, Clay Johansen of Barryton, Kim (Darin) Wilber of Chippewa Lake, Terry Johansen of Chippewa Lake, and Tim (Kelli) Johansen of Rodney; 11 grandchildren, Alex, Keegan, Olivia, Isabella, Jackson, Owen, and Kyle Johansen, Philip, Kurt, Eric, and Justin Wilber; brother, Rick Johansen of Barryton; brother-in-law, Charlie Bonham of Chippewa Lake; and many nieces and nephews. Kurt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Nina Johansen, parents, and sister, Coral Bonham. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Big Rapids Eagles 2535. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with medical bills, Big Rapids Rocket Football, or Big Rapids Little League.
