Kiyoko M. Metoki, age 57 of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, April 22, 2019. She was born June 22, 1961 in Hirosaki, Japan, the daughter of Yoshitaka and Akiko (Shiozaki) Metoki. Kiyoko earned her Masters of Educational Psychology and her PHD in Curriculum and Instruction in Education from University of Kansas. Kiyoko was employed by Western Governors University as a Research Writing Consultant. She enjoyed taking care of her pet birds and feeding and watching the wild birds. Kiyoko also appreciated the beauty of birds with statues and pictures. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Hikaru Metoki Murata of Big Rapids; two children, Sonny and Sonya Metoki, both of Big Rapids; her mother, Akiko Metoki of Towada City, Japan; her sister, Mieko (Ryoichi) Kawakatsu of Tokyo, Japan; several nieces and nephews. Kiyoko was preceded in death by her father, Yoshitaka Metoki. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
