Kim M. Straus, age 66 of Reed City, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at Altercare of Big Rapids. He was born September 26, 1947 in Saginaw, the son of Russell and Mildred (McWilliams) Straus. Kim graduated from Evart High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He served his country proudly for three years during the Vietnam War. During the war, Kim carried out three soldiers on his back under fire to make sure they weren't missing in action. He earned three purple hearts, Navy Cross and many other prestigious medals. Kim was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1970. He was a member of the American Legion. Kim was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife, Suanne Straus of Reed City; a daughter, Krystin (Anthony) Finan of FL; three grandchildren; five step-children, Richard Miller of FL, Fred (Lisa) Miller of NC, Cathy (Randy) Underwood of FL, Mary Hooks of KY and Michael Risk of Evart. Kim was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time.
