Kenneth VanTrump, 76, of St. Clair, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, March 2, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 17, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Dr. William and Marjorie (Owens) VanTrump.

Ken was united in marriage to his true love, Leilani Szot, and together they built a life filled with love, hard work, and golf. Ken, a veteran in the United States Army, served during the Vietnam Era.

For forty years Ken was a dedicated math teacher at Marlette Community Schools where he not only taught but also influenced the lives of countless students. His passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom as he spent many of those years coaching high school football and forging lasting bonds with his student-athletes, both on the field and in the classroom.

Later In life Ken found joy in the simple things-most notably keeping his lawn in pristine condition, ensuring it was always perfect for visitors. Above all he cherished his family and loved nothing more than supporting them, especially watching his granddaughters play basketball.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Leilani "Loni" VanTrump, his children, Eric (Therese) VanTrump and Michelle (Ryan) Bowen, his cherished granddaughters, Ashlynn and Lauren, and his sister, Sue Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lonnie (Mary) VanTrump.

Graveside services for immediate family will be held April 5th, 2025. A gathering for friends and family to share stories and memories will take place at Szot's Bar in Big Rapids, April 5th,2025 at 6pm. Also, a gathering in Marlette, Michigan, will take place at a date yet to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Kenneth.
