Kenneth J. Schoenborn, age 75 of Morley, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 at home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born June 14, 1939 in Big Rapids, the son of Joseph and Lenabelle (Dare) Schoenborn. Kenny graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1958, while attending school he joined the Michigan National Guard and was honorably discharged after six years of service. He married Judy A. Wilber on September 6, 1958 in Stanwood; together they made their home in the Big Rapids area. Kenny's working career began at the Citizens State Bank in Big Rapids, then Ferris State University, he later worked for MichCon for over 18 years; and finally established "Hydrogen Sulfite Operation Service" in Mt. Pleasant as well as the "Clothing Barn, for the working man". He successfully operated those businesses for over 17 years until retiring in 2000. Kenny's professional memberships included Past Chairman of the Michigan Chapter American Petroleum Institute and a member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Safety Association. As a contributing member of his community he served as a past president for the Big Rapids Jaycees, a member of the Big Rapids Elks Lodge #974, the Eagles Club in both Big Rapids and Stanwood and the Moose in Mt. Pleasant. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 171 F.&A.M. of Big Rapids, life member Dewitt Clinton Consistory, Saladin Shrine of Grand Rapids, Jesters Court 11, a charter member of El Hajj #7, past National Emir - El Hajj, past director of the Saladin Shrine Color Guard and a member of St. Michael Parish in Remus and St. Paul's Campus Parish in Big Rapids. Kenny is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Judy Schoenborn of Morley; three children, Kimberly Roebuck of Rodney, Kristi (Douglas) Robins of Cedar Springs, Charles (Julie) Schoenborn of Anchorage, AK; five grandchildren, Jonathon (Jessie) Couch of Allegan, Christopher (Shawna) Schoenborn of Mecosta, Ashley (Jimmy) Schoenborn of Palm Harbor, FL, Adam Schoenborn of Morley, Matthew (Elyse) Robins of Belding; five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Bailey, Logan, Jayden, Devin; two sisters, Marilyn (Lew) Doughtery of Broman, Joan Bitner of Grayling; sister-in-law, Marsha Schoenborn of Big Rapids; brother-in-law, Wayne Farnham of Wyoming, MI and many nieces and nephews. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, William Schoenborn, a grandson, Brendon Schoenborn; two brothers Paul and Alfred Schoenborn; a sister Nina Farnham; his father-in-law, Roy Wilber; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Sundell. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Paul's Campus Parish, 1 Damascus Road, Big Rapids with Father Joe Fix officiating with Military honors under the auspices of the Michigan National Guard. The family will greet friends on Thursday, May 28th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial service at 7:30 p.m. that evening.
