Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" Lee Maas, age 67, of Barryton, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Altercare of Big Rapids. He was born on December 24, 1948, to Edgar and Dorothy (Sparks) Maas, in Utica, Michigan. Ken entered into the United States Marine Corps in 1966 and began his military career as a policeman. He married Carol Golemo on October 31, 1970 in Chicago, IL. He served abroad during the Vietnam War where he was a Lance Corporal. He entered into the reserves, serving in the National Guard in Michigan and Illinois until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement Ken was a civilian police officer retiring in 2010. Ken is survived by his wife of 46 years Carol of Barryton; one son Kenneth Lee (Laurie) Maas Jr. of Gilberts, IL; grandchildren, Justin and Trevor Maas; step-grandson, Shane McCosky; four siblings, Jim Maas, Corrine (significant other Wayne) Bean, Denise Maas, Kevin (Gerri Ann) Maas; sisters-in-law, Theresa Marie Frandsen and April Maas; and many nieces, nephews and treasured friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, George (Iris) Frandsen, Richard Maas, Victor Frandsen and Dawn (Christopher) Maas Fowler. A celebration of Kens life is being planned for 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017 VFW Post in Evart with military honors. Memorial contributions in Kens memory can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Judes Children Hospital. Arrangements and care have been entrusted to the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
