Kay Louise Derby, age 56 of Big Rapids, Michigan passed away on April 1, 2024. Kay was born on January 29, 1968 to George Derby and Audrey Orr. She grew up working the family farm, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1986. Kay began attending Ferris State University in 1988 where she received her Associates Degree in Technical Drafting, and Tool Design. In 1991 she graduated from Ferris State University with her Bachelors Degree in Plastic and Polymer Engineering. Kay enjoyed crafting and putting puzzles together. She cherished telling stories and socializing with others. Kay was fond of photography and passionate about her family history. Kay is survived by her daughters, Hailey (Colt Miller) Ladner, and Lauren Ladner; nephew, Josh; nieces, Megan, and Caitlin. Kay was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ed. A private family service will take place at a later date. Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
