Karen E. Barkiewicz, age 67 of Reed City, passed away peacefully at her home, Monday, May 12, 2014. She was born June 23, 1946 in Detroit, the daughter of Xavier R. and Florence R. (Koslakiewicz) Zepke. Karen married Dale R. Barkiewicz on July 30, 1966 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Sterling Heights. They made their home in Rochester Hills. In addition to raising her family; Karen worked at T & C Federal Credit Union in Pontiac. Following their retirement, Karen and Dale moved to Green Township to live in 1998. She was a member of the Mecosta County Commission on Aging, Euchre Club. Karen loved to quilt and was a member of the Tall Pine Quilt Guild, the West Michigan Quilt Guild, the American Quilters Society and the Sew Creative Quilters of Evart. She is survived by her loving husband, Dale Barkiewicz of Reed City; a son, Craig Barkiewicz and his wife Jamie; a daughter, Jennifer Barkiewicz; a grandson, Anthony Barkiewicz all of Auburn Hills; a brother, Glen Zepke and his wife, Diane of Harrison and several nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth Fettig. There will be no public services. Memorial contributions in Karen's name may be made to Hospice of Michigan or the Animal Rescue Coalition, 18400 220th Avenue, Big Rapids, MI 49307. Envelopes may be obtained at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids where arrangements were made.
