Obituary

June Urale Buckley, age 99 of Big Rapids passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home, surrounded by her three daughters on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. She was born July 1, 1922 in Illinois, the daughter of Charlie and Grace (Waggoner) Blake. June grew up in Central Michigan. She graduated with honors from Harrison High School after attending three different schools, the three years prior to her 1940 graduation. June married Carl Buckley in 1940 and they moved to Big Rapids in 1944. June was a great mother to her four children, always involved in their school activities and the Scouts. She later worked at Ferris State University in several different offices and was very proud to be instrumental in starting the first accounts payable department at Ferris State College. June and her husband, Carl were on bowling leagues for many years. Then Carl started golfing, a sport June was not interested in.until she was. Carl said it was one of his biggest mistakes because when June started golf she never wanted to quit. They golfed with friends, they spent winters in Florida to continue golfing and June headed up the ladys golf league at Winters Creek until she was 90 years old. June was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Big Rapids where she enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School. June loved spending time with her family and she adored her grandchildren. June is survived by three children; Kay (Terry) Langworthy of Big Rapids, Jan (Randy) Bleeker of Big Rapids, Kim (Ed) Grant of Levering; nine grandchildren, Dan Langworthy, David (Christine) Langworthy, Tom (Jennifer) Buckley, Kristin Wruble, Stephen Buckley, Chad (Mari Kay) Bleeker, Jason (Kelly) Walters, Jennifer (Mike) List, Katelyn (Justin) Blohm; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. June was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1991; a son William in 2011; two sisters, Crystal (Robert) Sturk, Peggy (Ray) Meininger; two brothers, Vaughn (Ruth) Blake and Bill (Iva) Blake. A special thank you is extended to Spectrum Health Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
