Joyce L. Hopkins, age 81, of Barryton (Tubbs Lake) passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Charlotte. She was born on June 1, 1931 in Lansing, MI to Harold and Lillian (Conway) Kendall. Joyce was raised by her mother Lillian and Edward McCollum in Lansing where she graduated from Eastern High School in 1949. On October 1, 1955 she married William W. Hopkins and together they made their home and raised their family in Mason. Bill and Joyce enjoyed their property at Tubbs Lake since the late 60's. Shortly after Bill's retirement they made it their permanent home. Joyce was a member of the Big Rapids AmVet Post #1941, enjoyed playing cards at Murphy's and going to the casino. Joyce looked forward to playing cribbage, dominos and fishing. Joyce is survived by her daughter Sue Cook-Guillaume and her husband David Guillaume, Four grandchildren; Kari Hopkins, Kelly Hopkins, Jason (Rhonda) Cook and Joshua (Myra Petty) Cook, thirteen great grandchildren, sister-in-law Lucy Whitney, two Aunts and several nieces, nephews and friends that will treasure the memories they have. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Hopkins in 2008, her son Michael Hopkins in 2011 and one stepbrother Jay Whitney. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with the family greeting friends at the funeral home two hours prior from Noon until 2:00 p.m.. Memorial donations in Joyce's memory may be made to the Big Rapids AmVet Post.
