Josephine M. Williams, age 91 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital. She was born February 8, 1925 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Spedowski) LaRocque. Josephine graduated from Big Rapids High in 1942. In September of 1943 she married Clifford Williams in Trenton, New Jersey, where he was stationed with the United States Army. Josephine raised her six children in Big Rapids. She was an excellent cook and baker. Josephine cooked for the American Legion Post 98 events, where she was a member of the Womens Auxiliary. She baked wedding cakes and enjoyed going to yard sales with her special friend Evelyn Dunn. Josephine attended dance classes at the Mecosta County Senior Center and loved to wash and iron clothes. She was also a member of the VFW and St. Mary St. Paul Parish in Big Rapids. Josephine is survived by five children, Kyrene (Ron) Ricketts of Byron Center, Patricia (Ron) Spicer of Big Rapids, Julia Knopf of Big Rapids, Judith (Gerald) Martin of Lawrence, and Timothy (Kay) Williams of Big Rapids; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister at heart, Evelyn Dunn of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, Clifford; son, Clifford Williams; son-in-law, Gordon Knopf; and two brothers and one sister. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made in Josephines name to the American Legion Womens Auxiliary Post 98 or the Big Rapids AmVets Post 1941.
