Joseph "Joe" Edward Sheppard Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Big Rapids on March 18, 2026. He was born in Lansing on November 8, 1954, the son of Bernard and Delores (Litke) Sheppard.

Late in high school, Joe enlisted and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid supporter of the Detroit Lions, and a valued member of the bowling league in Big Rapids. At work or at home, Joe could always be found outdoors. He worked on the railroad and did landscaping for some time, and he had a knack for gardening. Joe grew a plethora of things from corn to peonies throughout his life. Everything he did was made sweeter when his grandchildren and Sharon were by his side. He absolutley adored them. Joe's family will dearly miss the daily phone calls he never forgot to make, just to check up on the people he loved.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Sharon Wilson; children: Sara Sheppard, Nichole (James Durfee) Sheppard, and Joey Sheppard; siblings: Mike (Amy) Fenton, Rose McGrath, and Lulu Bignal; as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he adored.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father: Paul Fenton; brother: Paulie Fenton; and grandson: Darnell Appling.

Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes. A memorial service will be held at Christian Life Ministries, located at 428 West Ave, Big Rapids, MI 49307, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 1:30 PM, with a meal to follow.
