Joseph A. Jacobs, age 66, a lifetime resident of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017. He was born May 26, 1951 in Big Rapids the son of Joseph Jr. and Shirley (McNab) Jacobs. Joe graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1969 and began his career at Giant Super Market in Big Rapids. He took a leave from Giant to join the Army National Guard of Michigan. During his service time Joe married Gail Furness on August 19, 1972. Joe was honorably discharged as a Sergeant after 6 years of service with the Guard. He returned to work at Giant and retired after 27 years. He was later employed by Pattersons Flowers in Big Rapids; delivering joy and happiness throughout Mecosta County for over 17 years. Joe loved camping, fishing, friends and his family. He enjoyed socializing at Schubergs and Szots. He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Gail Jacobs; two children, Lori Ann Jacobs, Joey Scott Jacobs all of Big Rapids; his twin sister, JoAnn Jacobs (Chuck) Fitz of Grand Ledge; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Janet Jacobs Clark of Paris. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles R. Jacobs in 1993. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Joes name may be made to: the Cure P.S.P.
