Joseph G. "Jo Jo" Spedowski, age 40 of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. He was born on August 31, 1970 in Big Rapids the son of Joseph and Nancy (Hargett) Spedowski. Jo Jo was a lifelong resident of Big Rapids. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School until 6th grade and then went on to graduate from Big Rapids High School. Jo Jo worked with his parents at Spedowski Pool and Spas. He enjoyed helping with Little League Baseball and the Big Rapids Junior Varsity Baseball team. Jo Jo loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and farming. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Nancy Spedowski; a brother, Michael Spedowski; a nephew, River Spedowski, a niece, Autumn Spedowski all of Big Rapids and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Joe was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph A. and Joyce M. Spedowski and his maternal grandparents, George C. and Myrtle M. Hargett. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Lam T. Le as Celebrant and Father David Gross as Con-Celebrant. The family will greet friends at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1009 Marion on Friday, September 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. that evening. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions in Jo Jo's name may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Scholarship Fund or St. Mary's God's Kitchen.
