John R. "Jack" Nelson, age 76 of Mecosta formerly of Waterford, passed away early morning of Monday, October 26, 2015 at his home. He was born on April 4, 1939 in Pontiac, the son of Thomas and Marilyn (Robbins) Nelson. Jack honorably served his country in the United States Army. He retired after 23 years of employment with General Motors Truck and Bus. Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol (Barnett) Nelson of Mecosta; his children, Patricia Thompson of Fenton, Connie (Lonnie) Conway of East Tawas, Jeff Nelson of Big Rapids and Debra Schumacher of Myrtle Beach, SC; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Nelson of West Palm Beach, FL; sister, Jeanne (Tom) Draper of Jackson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents. A memorial gathering will take place from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Highland Haus Pro Shop in Stanwood.
