John T. Mulcahy Sr., age 86 of Jenison, formerly of Mecosta, entered into the loving Arms of his Savior on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at his home. He was born March 18, 1928 in Manhattan, New York, the son of Patrick and Anna Mulcahy. John married the former Beatrice Merva on September 4, 1954. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy serving during World War II. John worked as a master carpenter, not only as his career but as his hobby. The family moved to Mecosta in 1971 to make their home and to Jenison in 2009. John was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Beatrice "Cookie" for over 60 years and father to his three adoring children. He gave his children everything he didn't have growing up and had a great love and treasured his grandchildren. His children's many childhood memories include an "every weekend adventure"; going to the circus, Central Park, the Lollipop Farm and pet shops. John will be remembered as being a selfless man that truly cared for people. He had a great wit and was loved by many. He is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice Mulcahy of Jenison; daughter Debra Mulcahy of Jenison, two sons, John Mulcahy Jr. and wife Lori of Louisville, KY, Timothy Mulcahy and wife Ann of Cedar Springs; five grandchildren, John III, Grace, Anna, Abigail and Ryan Mulcahy; a sister Ann Porbert of New York; and his much loved dog, Clancy. Funeral services will take place 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 25th at St. John Chrysostom Russian Orthodox Church, 40 National Ave., NW, Grand Rapids with Father James Anthony officiating. Interment is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, at St. Michaels Cemetery in Remus with military honors under the auspices of VFW Post # 2335 of Mecosta.
