John Wayne Meeker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, in Barryton, MI. John was born on October 9th, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, to Wayne Meeker and Thelma (Simmons) Meeker.

John proudly served his country as a Naval Hospital Corpsman, dedicating his early career to the care and well-being of fellow servicemen. After his honorable service, he continued his career at the Federal Center in Battle Creek, then as a Rural Mail Carrier, where he worked diligently until his retirement. John was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He found joy in gardening, loved to listen to music, and liked participating in evenings spent watching “Jeopardy.”

John was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Lynn (Wells) Meeker, and his 5 children: Michelle Meeker, Rebecca (Chuck) Nagy, Juliet Champagne, Russell (Ada) Meeker, and William (Bonnie) Meeker. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (Mike) Ehr, and his nieces and nephews, Sabrina (Carl) Blaine, Brian (Theresa) Ehr, Sherry (Randy) Evans, and Larry (Deb) Switzer, and 16 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his father, Wayne Meeker, mother, Thelma (Simmons) Meeker, sister Joyce Meeker Switzer, and many aunts and uncles who held a special place in his heart. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 A.M. with military honors to follow at 11:30 A.M. held at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home - Barryton Chapel. Family invites friends to join them to visit at the funeral home following services.
