Obituary

John G. McCoy, age 87 of Paris, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at The Brook of Big Rapids. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 12, 1935, the son of the late Lester D. and Bernice (Trindle) McCoy. He is survived by three children, Susan B. (Daniel) Mercer, John W. (Ladda) McCoy, and Molly J. (Greg Cummings) McCoy; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; the mother of his children and lifelong friend, Julie M. Walker; sister, Jane Broadbooks; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Fisher. John was a graduate of University of Michigan with a Masters Degree in Social Work. His career was focused on Residential Treatment and Juvenile Justice until he landed at Ferris State University, Big Rapids Michigan, where he was a Professor in the Social Work Program until his retirement. Funeral Services will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service (from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.) on Friday at the Funeral Home. John will be laid to rest at Davenport Cemetery in Paris, MI. Memorial contributions may be made in Johns name to Hospice of Michigan Big Rapids Chapter or Ferris Futures Scholarship Challenge.
