Obituary

John A. "Amish John" Mast, age 47 of Stanwood, tragically passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born August 1, 1971 in Conewango, New York, the son of Andrew A. and Ella M. (Miller) Mast. Johns motto in life was "work hard, play hard". He understood that you needed to work for the things you had in life. John truly enjoyed working. He was a local contractor and dairy and cattle farmer. John attended the Old Country Church in Paris. He participated in rodeos and chute dogging. John had a big heart and would put himself out there to listen to and help people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and to some he will always be their hero. John is survived by his wife, Rebecca Mast; nine children, Anna (David) Coblentz of Ohio, Andrew (Twila Peck) Mast of Morley, Mary (Floyd) Hershberger of Ohio, Esther (Henry) Coblentz of Ohio, Jonas Mast of Morley, Daniel Mast of Morley, David Mast of Ohio, Emma Williams of Canadian Lakes, and Sarah Mast of Canadian Lakes; five grandchildren; twelve siblings, Mattie (Roy) Brenneman of Ohio, Mary (Alvin) Brenneman of Ohio, Edna (Paul) Brenneman of Morley, Mose (Lydia) Mast of Kentucky, Elizabeth (Perry) Weaver of Ohio, Jonas (Jennifer) Mast of Middleville, Clara (Russell) Lowe of Kentucky, Rosie (John) Dodson of Ohio, Aden (Anna) Mast of Ohio, Rachel (Ervin) Detweiler of Wisconsin, Ella (John) Byler of Pennsylvania, and Andrew Mast of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood with Pastor Eric Stadtfeld officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood. John will be laid to rest at Stanwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Johns name to his family. Arrangements and care entrusted to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
