Obituary

John W. "Jack" Frumveller, age 85 of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully Monday, January 15, 2018 at Angela Hospice in Livonia. He was born October 11, 1932 in Port Huron the son of William T. and Sadie A. (Needham) Frumveller. Following his High School graduation, Jack was accepted to Ferris State University in the Pharmacy program. While attending Ferris he was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged after two years of service. Jack returned from the service and married the former Darlene Flachs on June 6, 1959 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus. Together they made their home in Big Rapids where Jack began his working career at Frank and Wood Chevrolet, later he was employed by the Mecosta County Road Commission and then at Ferris State University until his retirement. Jack was an active member of the faith family at St. Mary-St. Paul Catholic Parish in Big Rapids; he was involved in the parish music ministry by playing the organ and directing the choir. Jack and Darlene enjoyed winters in Apache Junction, AZ and summers at their cottage on the Muskegon River in Croton. He dearly loved his grandchildren, traveling, making silver jewelry and giving organ lessons at Ferris State. Survivors include his beloved wife of over 58 years, Darlene Frumveller of Big Rapids; his daughter, Diane (Steve) Martz of Farmington Hills; two grandchildren, Nicholas (Fiancee` Michelle Channell) Martz of Novi, Dr. Marissa Martz of Providence, RI; sisters-in-law, Donna Flachs of Remus, Mary Flachs of Albuquerque, NM and many special nieces and nephews. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Big Rapids with concelebrants Father Michael Burt and Father Thomas Page officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions in Jacks name may be made to the Mecosta County Commission on Aging Meals on Wheels, 12954 80th Ave., Mecosta, MI 49332.
