John C. Fredrick, age 67 of Muskegon, formerly of Rodney, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at his home. He was born April 9, 1943 the son of Clifton and Elizabeth (Bowerman) Fredrick. John lived most of his life in Rodney where he had a varied working career. He loved to work in the soil and operated a dairy farm in Rodney for many years. John established "Fredrick's General Store" in Rodney and he reopened and rebuilt the "Chippewa Hills Estates" mobile home park between Remus and Barryton. John also was employed at Wolverine World Wide, worked in excavating and on the oil rigs. He owned the "J & J Auto Body" in Howard City with his son John Fredrick II and also worked at "Custom Design Components" in Howard City. In his spare time John liked to dear hunt and he enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada. The love of John's life was his family whose members include; his 3 children, Sandy (Ken) Charron of Alaska, Ronda (Brian Summers) Stevens of Paris, John II (Colly) Fredrick of Muskegon; 8 grandchildren, Antoinette, Andrew, David, Bryant, Ryan, Dalton, Lauren, and Kyle; 2 great-grandchildren, Bradley and Brendan and one on the way; 3 sisters, Louise Howe of Bay City, Laura (Spencer) Burr of Reed City, Ardis (Jim) Lowden of Rodney and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a nephew, James Lowden. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Daggett ~ Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Mike Riegler officiating. Burial will be at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions in John's name may be made to "No More Sidelines" a volunteer group for activities of special needs children.
