John Oliver Bumstead, age 63 of Barryton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Mecosta County Medical Center in Big Rapids. John was born on August 11, 1949 in Detroit, MI to Oliver and Margaret (LaValle) Bumstead. He was raised in the Detroit area before entering the United States Army in 1968. John was honorably discharged in 1971 following his tour of duty in Vietnam. On October 30, 1998 he married his childhood friend A. Lynn (Ross) Maciejewski in Winchester, VA. John and Lynn made their home in Detroit before moving to Barryton in 2001. John was a member of the Barryton American Legion Post #473, an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing on his computer and looked forward to weekly wrestling and MMA events. John is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Lynn Bumstead of Barryton; 9 children, Mike (Tawny) Maciejewski of Barryton, John Michael Kapanowski of Detroit, Matthew Maciejewski of Livonia, Marnie (Mike) Parrish of Lennox Twp., Mitchell Maciejewski of Evart, Amanda Bumstead of Reed City, Denise Pete of Roseville, John (Lucinda) Reed of Ludington and Trisha Smith of Davidson; two sisters, Judy Menapace and Sharon Foutz; halfbrother, James Epps of Detroit; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Kathy Firosz and Debra Bumstead; infant daughter Britney Bumstead and son Eric Bumstead in 2011. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations in John's name can be made to the American Cancer Society and the Diabetes Association.
