Joanne C. Hanson, age 70 of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 5, 2017 at her home. She was born September 25, 1946 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Baysel and Taimi (Puro) Jernstadt. Joanne graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1964. She raised her two daughters, Kirstin and Deirdre, in the Stanwood area. Joanne attended The Woods Free Methodist Church in Stanwood. She enjoyed playing games; especially scrabble, canasta, and pinnacle. Joannes children, grandchildren, and family were her life. She will be greatly missed. Joanne is survived by her two daughters, Kirstin (Steve) Sims of Big Rapids and Deirdre (Ken) Hall of Trufant; three grandchildren, Justin, Keegan, and Ally; two brothers, Arthur (Sue) Jernstadt and Ronald Jernstadt both of Grand Rapids; sister, Becky Bohner of Ohio; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. The family will greet friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Joannes name to the MS Society.
