Joan R. Montague, age 84 of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 at home with her family by her side. She was born July 6, 1932 in Reed City, the daughter of Floyd and Gail (Morris) Correll. She graduated from Reed City High School in 1950. Joan married Brian Montague on June 15, 1951 in Reed City; together they made their home and raised their family in Big Rapids. She was employed by Wolverine World Wide for 25 years and drove bus for Dial-A-Ride for the last 30 years until she was 83 years old. Joan was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Reed City. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Joan cherished her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy and now her legacy. Joan traveled throughout Michigan to watch and support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during different events and activities. She took care of her family; Joan was giving and had a big heart. She is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Brian Montague of Big Rapids; six children, Steve & Roxy (Kaplin) Montague of Reed City, Debbie & Dan Wilkinson of Paris, David & Wendy (Perko) Montague of Big Rapids, Linda & Mike Christison of Big Rapids, Mark & Diane (Scheid) Montague of Big Rapids, and Tracy & Tom Robbins of Zeeland; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd "Bud" & Bonnie Correll Jr. and Keith Correll; sister, Patricia "Pat" & John Varterian; brother-in-law, James & Helen Montague; sisters-in-law, Georgia Bauman, Gaynelle & Bill Knapp and Barb Jorgensen; and many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gene Correll and Brian Lee Correll. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Dawn Pooley officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Tuesday (at 10:00 a.m.) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Joans name to Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center.
