Jimmie L. Verburg, age 66 of Stanwood passed away Friday, October 16, 2009 at his home. He was born February 18, 1943 in Grand Rapids the son of Harold and Grada (VanHoven) Verburg. Jimmie learned the skill of plastering from his father and was self employed as a skilled plasterer and drywaller for over 40 years. Jim and his wife Dee moved from Grand Rapids over 20 years ago to make their home in Stanwood. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jimmie was a member of F.O.E. Aerie # 4360 of Stanwood. He is survived by his beloved wife, Delores "Dee" Verburg of Stanwood; 4 children, Mark (Diane) Verburg of Newaygo, Denise Bowen of Stanwood, Rick (Stephanie) Worden, Scott Verburg all of Grand Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Verburg, Brandon Yanick, Alexandra Worden, Arron (Stephanie) Dood; his mother Grada Verburg of Grand Rapids; a brother, Larry (Pat) Verburg of Cadillac; a sister, Renee (Ralph) Ambriz of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, Harold H. Verburg. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with the family greeting friends 2 hours prior to services from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow at the Stanwood Eagles. Memorial contributions in Jimmie's name may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
