Jerry Counterman, age 67 of Chippewa Lake, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014. He was born April 13, 1947 in Lansing, the first son of Jerry Lee and Alice Marie Counterman. Jerry attended Eastern High School until he was drafted by the United States Army. After serving during Vietnam he was honorably discharged as a sergeant. On January 2, 1973 Jerry married Nadine Marie Domres in a tiny white chapel in Lansing. He was employed by Fisherbody and Famous Recipe before he and Nadine moved to the Big Rapids area, where they raised their daughter. Jerry then worked for MOARC and retired after 22 years of employment. He and Nadine moved to the Chippewa Lake community where they enjoyed living and helping raise their two grandsons, Johnathan and Shane. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Mary; two grandsons, Johnathan Counterman and Shane McCoy; three brothers, Chuck, Brian and Scott; and a sister, Gayle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine; sister, Pam; and his parents. A memorial gathering with military honors will take place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Chippewa Lake Community Building.
