Jerry R. Bidwell, age 72 of Paris, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at his home. He was born October 21, 1940 in Covington, KY the son of Homer and Lillian (Ginn) Bidwell. Following high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany where he fell in love with and married the former Irene Backer on May 25, 1966; two days later he was shipped out to Vietnam for an 18 month tour. Jerry retired from the Army in 1978. Jerry and Irene made their home in New Baltimore while Jerry worked for ATAC in Warren. Upon retirement, in 1993, they moved to Paris, MI. Most recently, Jerry had been a grounds keeper at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, work that he enjoyed because Jerry loved to play golf. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Irene of Paris; step-son Jugen (Sylvia) Muller; step-grandson, Dennis Muller all of Germany; brother, Rolland (Gery) Bidwell of Kentucky; sister, Lou Bidwell of Florida; nieces and nephews, Dennis (Jody) Bidwell and daughters, John (Vicki) Bidwell and three boys, Debbie Bidwell, Doug (Linda) Bidwell and their children; Aunt Iris and Uncle Frank Smedley and family; and many dear friends. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 15th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Ron Weller officiating. The family will greet friends on at the funeral home on Thursday (today) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Friday.
