Jennie M. Rataj, age 91 of Mecosta formerly of South Lyon, passed away January 12, 2010 in Port Charlotte, FL. She was born March 25, 1918 in Detroit. Jennie moved to South Lyon and when her health began to decline, moved to Mecosta to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She wintered in Port Charlotte Florida for many years. Jennie had made her home in the Mecosta area for the past 10 years and was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Remus. She is survived by her daughter, Carol M. Horner of Mecosta; son, Alexander (Deanna) Rataj of Hartland, MI; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter; 2 brothers Stanley (Geraldine) Fortuna of Warren, Leonard Roman of Macomb Twp. and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Rataj Sr. in 1965, 3 brothers, Joseph, Edward and Chester Fortuna and a son-in-law, Bill Horner in 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday, January 16, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Remus with Father Michael Burt officiating. The family will greet friends at the Church 2 hours prior to services. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit.
