Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Jeffrey Van Johnson, on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Jeff was born on Tuesday, August 14, 1984, and his loss leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Jeff grew up in Big Rapids, Michigan, and graduated with the Class of 2003. He took great pride in his career as a truck driver, working hard while making it a priority to be home with his family each night. To Jeff, there was no greater reward than being home with the people he loved.

An avid outdoorsman, Jeff found some of his greatest joys in the things he loved most. Some of his favorite memories were made hunting alongside his dad and son, Westyn, camping and boating with family and friends, and tracking deer with his faithful dog, Cooper, by his side. Jeff took great pride in passing these passions on to his children, teaching them shooting sports and sharing with them a deep appreciation for the outdoors. These were more than hobbies to Jeff; they were opportunities to make memories, share his knowledge, and spend meaningful time with the people who mattered most.

Those who knew Jeff will remember him as a meticulous man with a generous heart, always willing to lend a helping hand or simply be there to listen. He was someone you could count on, whether you needed a hand with a project, someone to talk to, or a good conversation about hunting. If it involved the outdoors, especially hunting, Jeff was always happy to share his knowledge and enthusiasm. His love for his family, his willingness to help others, and the memories he created with those closest to him will forever remain a part of his legacy.

Jeffrey leaves behind his loving wife, Aimee Johnson; his children, Westyn and Eva; and his cherished stepchildren, Natalie, Avery, Ethan, and Emmett, whom he loved and embraced as his own. He is also survived by his parents, Van Johnson and Patricia Adrianse; his siblings, David (Stacy) Walston and Jake (Angie) Walston; and his many beloved nieces and nephews: Nicole (Andrew) Heisler, Jonathan (Andrea) Walston, Joshua Walston, Anthony (Veronica DeMaet) Marshall, Danielle Marshall, Caitlyn (Justin Baker) Walston, David G. Walston, Belmira Walston, Stephanie (Rob) Loy, Mackenna (Sam Tirrell) Devries, and Madison Walston.

He also leaves behind his father-in-law, Kast Sredersas; brother-in-law, Larry (Shawn) Sredersas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bruce and Evelyn Shepherd, and his maternal grandparents, Jack and Sue Adrianse.

Though his time with us was far too short, the love Jeff gave, the lessons he shared, and the memories he created will live on through his family and friends. His legacy will be carried forward in the traditions he passed down, the lives he touched, and the countless moments spent together in the great outdoors. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, Michigan. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A luncheon honoring Jeffrey’s life will follow at Big Rapids Eagles #2535.
