On Friday, May 1, 2015, God outstretched His hand and invited Jeanne to join Him is His house forever. She was 98. Jeanne was born on March 12, 1917, to James Duncan Cairns and Mildred Eliza (Gardiner) Cairns in the kingdom of Fife, Scotland. A brother, William ("Bill") Thomson Cairns was born on February 2, 1920, and sister Euphemia ("Effie") Adamson Cairns was born on November 26, 1923. In December 1925, the family immigrated to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, when Jeanne was 8 years old. In 1930, the family relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where they became U.S. citizens. Jeanne graduated from Mackenzie High School (Detroit) in 1935 and married Floyd Dickson Simpson on July 20, 1940, and took up residence in Dearborn Heights, MI. On February 15, 1942, they welcomed their first son, Wayne Dennis Simpson, into their hearts and home. On May 11, 1945, brother Wayne was joined by sibling Dale Floyd Simpson. After the "boys" entered grade school, Jeanne worked as the executive secretary to the principal at Crestwood High School in Detroit until her retirement in 1962. While serving in the U.S. Navy, Wayne was killed in an automobile accident in California on August 29, 1963. In 1969, Jeanne and Floyd moved to Big Rapids where he and son, Dale, built Circle Drive Trailer Park on 185th Avenue, Big Rapids. In 1973, they sold the business and relocated to Jenison, MI, where Floyd and Dale opened and operated Jenison Auto Parts. When they sold that business in 1977, Dale moved back to Big Rapids and was employed at Ferris State University in the College of Technology until his retirement in 2005. Floyd passed away on April 13, 1991, and Jeanne remained in their home until March 2012 when she was placed in Altercare of Big Rapids. She is survived by her son, Dale (Esther) Simpson of Rodney; grandsons Robin Wayne (Heather) Simpson of Oak Park, MI, and Chad Jeremy Simpson of Chattanooga, TN; great-grandchildren Lily and Sheldon Simpson; step grandchildren Connie JoEllen (Robert) Jackson of Dayton, OH; Eric (Michelle) Schlaack of Lakeland, FL; step great-grandchildren, Kendall and Nathan Jackson; and several nieces and nephews located throughout the United States and Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; son Wayne; and brother "Bill" and sister "Effie." The family extends its greatest appreciation to the nursing staff and aides at Altercare for their loving care and devotion to Jeanne during her residency.
