Obituary

Jean Leah Rogers-Hill, age 89 of Paris, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023. She was born in Amble on April 21, 1933, the daughter of the late Dewey and Lila (Dishong) Yanke. Jean was a member of Big Rapids First United Methodist Church. She had to leave school in 11th grade to work on the family farm. Jean married Philo Rogers on August 15, 1953, and together they raised their family in Big Rapids until he unexpectedly passed away on August 11, 1967. At this time, Jean was raising her six children and was employed at The Downtown Restaurant so she had the need to go get her drivers license. In 1978, she married Leonard Hill, who also passed unexpectedly on October 4, 1980. Jean went back to night school and in 1981 earned her GED. This was a very proud moment for her and her family as she also gave a speech on stage about them. Jean was a great role model for her family by showing them how to have strength and courage no matter what life threw their way. She had many talents, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and playing the organ. Jean also enjoyed crossword puzzles. She wanted her family to know and remember three things: 1. That she was a good cook, 2. She loved them all, 3. Shed always be there for them. Jean is survived by six children, James (Kim) Rogers of Stanwood, William (Deb) Rogers of Barryton, Betty Rogers of Paris, Bonnie (Louie) Edgerton of Zeeland, Larry Rogers of Illinois, and Mary Davis of Lansing; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Clarence (Mary) Yanke of Amble, Joan (Ron) Ryckert of Howard City, Delbert Yanke of Lakeview, Shirley Yanke of Lakeview, and Lee (Jane) Yanke of DeWitt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Bernerd Yanke, Beatrice Edgerly, Doris Jones, and her twin sister Jane Davis; daughter-in-law, Zoe Rogers; and infant great-grandson, Henry Lercher. A Celebration of Jeans life will be held in the Spring. Memorial contributions may be made in Jeans name to Mecosta County Meals on Wheels. Envelopes are available at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family encourages you to sign the guestbook and leave a memory of Jean at www.daggettgilbertfuneralhome.com Pending Saturday, February 4, 2023
