Jayne M. Schmidt, age 62 of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly February 18, 2024 at her home. She was born in Ironwood on May 24, 1961, the daughter of the late Gordon and Marilyn (Anderson) Baker. Jayne was raised in Crystal Falls and was a 1979 graduate of Forest Park High School. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Ferris State University. Jayne began working for Yoplait and later Gerber. She then became a licensed cosmetologist after attending Cadillac Institute of Cosmetology. Jayne started her career with Hair Affair before she owned and operated Jaynes Hair Salon. She also ran the Kids Club for many years at Northland United Methodist Church (now Northland Global Methodist Church), where she was a member. Jayne married Doug Schmidt on June 10, 1995. She enjoyed traveling back home to the Upper Peninsula, photographing nature, and crafting. Jayne is survived by her three sons, Mark L. Danielson of Big Rapids, Steven (Jessica Johnson) Danielson of Big Rapids, and Derek Danielson of Reed City; two grandchildren, Braylan and Carly Danielson; two step-daughters, Kali (Michael) Mazzenga of Clarkston and Kasey Schmidt of Big Rapids; one step-grandson, Logan Mazzenga; two sisters, Susan Aberly of Norway and Diane (Larry) Thorpe of Toivola; the father of her children, Mark K. Danielson of Amble; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Schmidt on April 11, 2023 and her brother Tom Baker. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. A private family graveside service will be held in Crystal Falls at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
