Janice M. Aardema, age 75 of Independence, Kentucky formerly of Stanwood, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023. She was born in Tecumseh on December 26, 1947, the daughter of Gordon and Erma (Allen) Kutchinski. Janice was a graduate of Morley Stanwood High School. She married Duane Aardema on December 6, 1969, and together they raised their family in Stanwood. Janice was employed with Morley Stanwood School District where she drove bus and was the custodian for over 20 years. Janice had a love of horses; both caring for them and riding them. She enjoyed being outside, working in her flower garden, and knitting. Janice helped organize the 4-H Club in Mecosta County, where she was a volunteer. She is survived by her two sons, DWayne Aardema of Grand Rapids and James (Katie) Aardema of Beattyville, KY; six grandchildren, Shera, Jacob, Jarod, Austin, Sidney, and Emili; one great-granddaughter on the way, Phoebe; one sister, Linda Fessler of Morley; and several nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and husband Duane Aardema. Funeral Services will take place 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Janice will be laid to rest at Highland View Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 2nd.
