Obituary

Janet Elaine Thompson, age 71 of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Mecosta County Medical Center. She was born February 2, 1938 in Dearborn the daughter of Kenneth and Elaine (Blank) Greenhoe. Janet grew up in Ionia where she graduated from High School. Following graduation she went to work as a switch board operator until she married Roy Thompson on January 12, 1957. The young couple moved to Six Lakes and later to Mecosta where Janet lived and worked on the family dairy farm for over 35 years. Besides raising her family and working on the farm, Janet was a member of the Mecosta County Farm Bureau, the TOPS Club, served on the Mecosta County Fair Board, was a 4 H leader, a life member of the Eastern Star and served on the FSA Board. No matter where her home was Janet attended a United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the woman's group. She most recently was attending the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. Janet especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports; she liked to sew, bake, play the piano and sing. Janet would feed "anyone" that came to her house. She will always be remembered for her never-ending smile and her positive attitude. Janet is survived by her beloved family, including her son Brian (Bonnie Anderson) Thompson of Mt. Pleasant; 3 daughters, Vicky Johnson of Lakeview, Julie (Brad) Sellers of Remus, Lisa (Joe) Voelker of Paris; 15 grandchildren, 5 Great-grandchildren, her mother, Elaine Greenhoe; brother, Duane Greenhoe; sister Marilyn (Jim) Clover all of Ionia and many nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Greenhoe. Funeral services will take place 12:00 p.m. (noon) Wednesday, December 2nd at the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids with Reverend Dean Prentiss and Pastor Mike Wissink officiating. Interment will be at Entrican Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Janet's name may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids.
