Janet "Jan" S. Fountain, 70, of Mecosta passed away unexpectedly at her home on November 20, 2010. She was born in Lakeview on May 25, 1940 to Edward and Isabelle Smith. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Alan Fountain on July 20, 2006. Jan was raised in Mecosta and graduated from Mecosta High School. On September 20, 1958, she married Alan Fountain of Remus and they made their home in Mecosta where they raised their family. Jan was a bus driver for the Chippewa Hills School District for many years and also worked as a teacher's aide. She was actively involved in her community, enjoyed volunteering, and helped at God's Helping Hands in Remus. Jan was instrumental in starting the Parks and Recreation Department for the Village of Mecosta and was an intrical part of Zoning in the Village. Earlier this month she was re-elected to another term as a trustee. She took on the responsibility of making sure Mecosta was decorated for Christmas and started the former Mecosta Days Festival. Jan was a new member of Eagles Buffalo Aerie 4360 in Stanwood and a parishioner at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Jan had an inner strength which helped her to be caring and compassionate. She is survived by 3 sons Edward (Marilyn) of Mecosta, Jeffrey Fountain of Las Vegas, Nevada and Brent Fountain of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister Shirley (Duane) Winnie of Mecosta; four grandchildren, Sara, Jack, Barry and Andrea; and one great grandson Joshua. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 26th at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus. A memorial mass will be held at St. Michael's on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Father Michael Burt officiating. Interment will be at St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to God's Helping Hands.
