James Lee "Jim" Walthorn, age 67, of Jehnsen Lake, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, January 25, 2024 after his battle with cancer. He was born in Grand Rapids on September 6, 1956, the son of Henry and Katherine (Doornbos) Walthorn. Jim was a 1974 graduate of Calvin Christian High School. Jim married Diane "Di" Mingerink on July 18, 1997 and together made their home in Caledonia. He was employed by Pella and then Vos Glass as a glasier. Jim loved to tinker and he enjoyed working on his 56 Chevy Hot Rod Pickup Truck. He could always be found outdoors staying busy. Jim had a dry sense of humor with a servants heart. He was always supportive of those he loved; most of all his wife and his family. Jim was a quiet man of unwavering faith whose heart belonged to God. He is survived by his wife Di of Jehnsen Lake; children, Jennifer Walthorn, Andrea (Paul) Foegelle, Kaylee Walthorn, Jerry (Kim) Van Dorp, Jim (Kathy) Van Dorp, Sarah (Rob) Freeman, Keith (Jen) Van Dorp, Ty Van Dorp, and Katie Van Dorp; grandchildren, Amelia and Sophia Van Dorp, Isaac (Katie), Jacob, Tim, Lizzie Van Dorp, Ashley, Tristan, Megan, Hailey, Lucy, and Ella Van Dorp, Joseph, Lucas, and Nathan Foegelle, Kaleb, Zahara, and Amyah Freeman; great-grandchildren, Landon, Hayden, Maya, and Logan; four siblings, Lois (Larry) DeVries, John (Kathy) Walthorn, Faith (John) Ruiter, and Phyllis (Bob) Myers; mother-in-law, Jane Mingerink; brothers-in-law, Marv (Sherry), Doug (Beth), Don (Maureen) Mingerink; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law Marv Mingerink. Funeral Services are planned for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 407 Perry Avenue, Big Rapids, MI 49307. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Church on Wednesday. Jim will be laid to rest at Blain Cemetery in Cutlerville.
