IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James L.
Tater
August 16, 1941 – January 4, 2026
James (Jimmy) Louis Tater, born on August 16, 1971, in Detroit, Michigan, to Dorothy and Louis Tater, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026 in Barryton, Michigan.
Jimmy was the beloved oldest sibling of Cynthia (Graham) and Jody Tater. He was predeceased by both of his parents, Dorothy and Louis.
Jim lived with an intellectual disability that shaped his world in unique and beautiful ways. Jimmy spent many years working in Big Rapids at Hope Network making toys. He had a pure heart and found deep joy in life's simplest pleasures. He delighted in working on jigsaw puzzles, coloring books, and watching TV. He cherished collecting and looking at photographs of his family and friends.
And few things brought a bigger grin to James's face than a classic McDonald's cheeseburger — a treat he enjoyed with unmistakable enthusiasm every time.
James lived at the McBride Adult Foster Care Home in Barryton, Michigan. He was well cared for and loved by fellow residents and caregivers alike. He was a friend ready to offer a hand to hold.
He will be forever remembered as a sweet uncle and great-uncle.
James's family is grateful for the care he received and the love he gave so freely. Though his life was simple, his presence was profound, and he will be greatly missed.
A private memorial gathering will be held by the family upon his birthday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sharing a cheeseburger in James's honor or spending time with a loved one looking through old photos — two things that would have made him smile.
Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes of Barryton. To share a memory or leave a condolence for the family, please visit, www.daggettfuneral.com
