James S. Olson, age 54 of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at his home. He was born on April 29, 1959 in Big Rapids to Samuel and Dorothy (Penland) Olson. Jim graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1977 and later attended Ferris State University where he obtained an Associates of Machine Tool. He married Geraldine J. Kesler on May 21, 1988 in Evart and they made their home in Big Rapids. He has been employed as a tool and die setter at Fluid Routing Solutions (Mark IV) in Big Rapids for close to 30 years. Jim was a member of the Big Rapids Assembly of God. He loved sports especially Detroit Lions Football and Tigers Baseball; and Ferris hockey, basketball and football. Jim is survived by his wife of 25 years Gerry of Big Rapids; two daughters, Jennifer Olson of Winchester, KY and Juliet Olson of Big Rapids; his beloved mother, Dorothy of Big Rapids; one sister, Patti Olson of Big Rapids; mother and father in-law, Virgil (Lavon) Kesler of Lynchburg, VA; four brother's-in-law, Gary (Renae) of McKinney, TX, Dale (Melody) Kesler of Edwardsburg, Donald of Manton and Randy of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces, nephews and close friends who will continue to cherish the memories they have. Jim was preceded in death by his father; Samuel Olson. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Big Rapids Assembly of God (14200 Northland Dr.) with Pastor Kris Richardson officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
