James R. Meeker, 74, a lifelong resident of the Barryton and Remus areas passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. He was born in Sheridan Twp., Mecosta Co. on August 18, 1934 to Vern and Mary Louise (Mosey) Meeker. Jim graduated from Remus High School. On May 21, 1955 he married Norma Jean Karcher in Remus where they raised five children and have resided ever since. He was a simple and humble man who enjoyed farming and horseback riding. He was a member of the Michigan Trail Riders Association and treasured the time he spent with his family. Jim retired as a welder from Mobark in 1996. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Norma of Remus and their children: Kim Meeker, Cindy (Dean) Lattimore, Kip (Linda) Meeker, Lois Schmidt and Kay (Tim) Williams, ten grandchildren: Seth, Ty and Darla Lattimore, Megan and James Meeker, Kelsey and Jodi Meeker, Kasey and Kali Schmidt and Chloe Williams, one great granddaughter Christina Meeker, six siblings: Edna (Bob) Carpenter, Jeanette Ross, Joane (Don) Mentzer, Bill (Sandy) Meeker, Devern (Pat) Meeker, Dick (Di) Meeker, sisters-in-law: Thelma Meeker and Ilene Meeker and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Jim was preceded in death by: sisters; Beulah Meeker, Evelyn Meeker, Alice Baker, Betty Taylor and Nina Moore, two brothers; Wayne and Floyd and a grandson Evan Lattimore. Cremation has taken place.
