Obituary

James "Skip" Arthur McLear age 68, of Newaygo, MI, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at his home. He was born on July 23, 1943 in Tupper Lake, NY to Frank and Ena Mae (Olivey) McLear. At the age of 7 the family moved to Groton, NY where James was raised and graduated from Groton High School in 1961. On August 13, 1966 he married Bernadette M. Strockbine in Matawan, NJ. In 2000 the couple made their home in Newaygo so they could be closer to their family. James was a sports enthusiast, avid boater and outdoorsman. When he was able he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. James is survived by his wife of 45 years Bernadette who will continue to remember the various trips and wonderful journeys their life together brought them. Two beloved children: Lisa (Paul) Wagner of Pentwater, MI and James A. (Fiance Lisa Martin) McLear Jr. of Morley, MI; three grandchildren who he treasured spending time with: Alexander, Samuel and Madeline Wagner; one sister Julie (Raymond) Volbrecht of Groton, NY and many nieces, nephews and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ena Mae. In lieu of flowers memorials in James' name can be made to Arbor Day to plant a tree. Cremation has taken place through the care of the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, MI.
