James Mallory Jr., age 73, a lifelong resident of Morley passed away at his home in Morley on Monday, November 3, 2014. He was born one of 14 children on May 10, 1941 in Wyatt, Missouri, the son of James Sr. and Averie (Weems) Mallory. In 1966 Jim was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving for two years as a paratrooper. He loved jumping out of 119 planes. Jim married Dorothy Toliver on July 5, 1966 and had 48 wonderful years together. He was employed by ANR Pipeline for 30 years as a senior gas line operator until he retired. Jim enjoyed hunting in the back woods for small game. Dorothy would tease him, calling him John Wayne; with a rifle in one hand, a pistol around his waist and one under his arm pit. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Morley; two daughters; Shelby (Michael) Neglio of CT and Cynthia Mallory of Morley; two grandchildren; Jackson Robert Neglio and Mallory Rose Neglio; ten brothers and sisters; Cleatus Mallory of MO, Juanita (Billy) Webb of Morley, Marie Milton of Grand Rapids, Arthur Mallory of SC, Reuby Johnson of Grand Rapids, Melvin Mallory of Morley, Gary (Gloria) Mallory of NC, Pearlee Mallory of Morley, Mark (Cheryl) Mallory of Morley and Karl (Shelly) Mallory of Morley. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Averie (Weems) Mallory; two sisters, Charlie Mae Wyatt and Margaret Davis; and one brother, Vernon Mallory. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7th at the funeral home and again from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to Mecosta County Commission on Aging.
