Obituary

James L. Kallas of Evart, MI, passed away on April 1, 2016 in Reed City, at the age of 83. He was born on August 20, 1932 in Evart to Nicholas and Winifred (Clark) Kallas. James served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in June of 1955. James owned Kallas Lawn Ornaments for 34 years and enjoyed being able to work with family. He looked forward to trying his luck at cards at the casino and liked fishing and hunting when he was able. James had a good sense of humor and was known for picking on people. James is survived by his children: Terry Beemer and Janine (Howard) Bennett and their families both of Evart; 10 grandchildren and numerous, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. James was preceded in death by: his parents; his beloved wife Alice Kallas; two daughters, Rhonda Stevens and Connie Beemer Adams; four brothers, "Hank" Henry, "Chick" William, "Blacky" Ephraim, and Peter; and three sisters, Donna Marrs, Lula Bissett and Betty Kallas. A celebration of life and dinner will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Evart VFW Post 7979 (4681 85th Ave., Evart), where he was a lifelong member.
