Hurst
May 24, 1947 – April 6, 2026
Saint Anne Cemetery
Starts at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
James "Jim" Edward Hurst passed away on April 6, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 24, 1947 in Paris, Michigan, the son of James and Dolores (Thompson) Hurst.
For 42 years, Jim proudly served his community as mail carrier of the United States Postal Service in Hersey, Michigan. He even earned a plaque for having driven more than one million miles in his post office vehicle without a single accident. He also served in the United States Army, both active duty and reserves.
Jim was always admired as the coolest guy in the room. He loved to laugh, and got his greatest joy from being around people. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin could always be heard playing over the rumble of his muscle cars.
Jim is lovingly remembered by three sons: Jamie (Kathy) Hurst, Thomas Hurst, and Jeffrey Hurst; grandchildren: Breanna Amber, Shaina Rose, Alex, and Joseph; numerous great-grandchildren; and siblings: SUzie Kidder, Dick Hurst, and Dave Hurst.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Patricia Hurst; both parents; as well as two siblings: Jack Hurst and Jan Moore.
Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Big Rapids. Jim and Patricia will be laid to rest together at Saint Anne Cemetery, located at 23782 22 Mile Rd, Paris, MI 49338 on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
