James "Jim" A. Fetterley, age 73, passed away unexpectedly at his home Wednesday, November 9, 2022. He was born June 14, 1949, in Big Rapids, the son of Wilbur and Mary (Kailing) Fetterley. Jim was involved in his community as an Equestrian Team Coach at Big Rapids High School for five years and Mecosta County 4-H with Young Riders for 14 years. He was a devout member of Saint Mary Saint Paul Catholic Community. Jim was a talented and hardworking outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter and trapper, enjoyed shooting sports and target practice. Jim dedicated his life to farming: growing crops, beef cattle, horses and always had a loyal Australian Shepard. He was a self-taught mechanic and fabricator; Jim would tinker and rebuild anything with or without an engine. He was a Western enthusiast that appreciated a good pancake breakfast, especially with his grandchildren and never could pass up a yard sale. Jim was a man of few words; he will be missed. Jim is survived by his children, Bryan Fetterley, Chris Fetterley, and Gina Durfee; siblings, Mary Thebo, Sharon (Jeff) Toogood, and Dick (Carol) Kailing; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Zachary, and Jaime; great-grandchildren, Mallory and Melanie; several nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Buddy and Cap. He was preceded in death by his parents; children, David Fetterley and Rachel Goldman. Mass of the Resurrection will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Saint Paul Campus Parish, with Father Jegar Fickel officiating. The family will greet friends Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and one hour prior to the service at church.
