Irene F. (Friday) Schuberg, age 72 of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023. By her side was her husband of fifty years Don, her three boys Jeff, Jon & Jeremy, two of her daughters-in-law, Kristin and Christie and three of her grandsons Riley, Ryan, and Austin. Irene was preceded in death by father Fred Friday, mother Irene (Bovee) Friday, and brother Tom (Friday). Irene is survived by her husband Don; son, Jeff his wife Kim (Jameson); son, Cody and Irenes only granddaughter, Ella. Son, Jon his wife Kristin (Brownridge); sons Riley and Ryan. Son, Jeremy his wife, Christie (Rotman) and son, Austin. Sister Gail (Friday) Labadie her husband Tom; son, Tim; daughter, Lana; great nephew, Brady Labadie and great niece, Gracie Labadie. Irene graduated Salutatorian from Morley Stanwood High School. She then went on to Central Michigan University to get her teaching degree with a major in English, a minor in Spanish and a Master of Arts. After college, Irene returned to Morley Stanwood where she would spend her entire career spanning 37 and a half years. She taught high school English & Spanish, middle school English & Spanish and later she became the Physical/Health Education Teacher. Irene loved kids, especially the underdogs and troublemakers. She also loved track and field and coached junior high track for many years. She created many special bonds over the years and helped fund many varsity jackets unbeknownst to most. On June 2, 1973, Irene married Don Schuberg. They started out in a single wide trailer. Together on nights and weekends behind that little trailer her and Don built their dream home. There they spent the next 50 years building and raising a family. Nothing was more important to Irene than her family. She loved watching her boys play sports through the years; then watching her grandchildren carry on the tradition. In fact, her last words were "good luck at wrestling Austin". She will be dearly missed by many. Funeral Services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27th at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at Church.
